Permaculture Workshop Led by Harvey Harman with Claudia Horwitz and Tahz Walker

September 6th and 7th.

Permaculture is a way of designing ecosystems for diversity, stability and resiliency. It uses land in a way that integrates human activity and the natural ecology, a way to design sustainable human habitats by following nature's patterns.

There are still a few spaces left for this unique change to study with one of the most passionate and knowledgeable practitioners of permaculture. Harvey Harman started the Sustainable Farming Program at Central Carolina Community College and now manages conservation-based development projects around the Triangle.

The workshop will run on Saturday, September 6 from 10 am - 8 pm and Sunday, September 7th from 10 am - 3 pm. Cost is on a sliding scale, $50-250. Overnight accommodations on Saturday are available. Lunch both days will be provided. Please bring a dish to share for Saturday night. For more info and to register, email Claudia

Doing What Has to be Done: From Tyranny to Freedom in Our Minds and Our World

October 17th-26th

This 10 day silent vipassana meditation retreat at The Stone House taught by Michele McDonald with Jesse Maceo Vega-Frey.

The retreat will focus on cultivating a meditation practice that is rooted in wisdom and bolstered by the heart. The teachings are grounded in a deep respect for traditional Theravada Buddhist mind-training and balanced by a reverence for the many ways that our practice can naturally unfold for each of us. Care will be taken to provide tools to support both anchoring and exploration, courage and protection, rigor and rest.

The teachers are deeply committed to the teachings of liberation as taught by the Buddha and emphasize the ways in which the untangling of the knots in our minds and hearts can have a powerful impact in the transformation of our society.

Being Change: The Way of the Activist

Led by Claudia Horwitz and Jesse Maceo Vega-Frey

Nov 5-9

Walking a path of activism with integrity requires time for inner work that may not regularly be found in our everyday lives. Periods of retreat, where activists commit to deeper reflection, contemplation, and presence are an essential part of maturation and growth. Without this dedicated time, the fullest expressions of embodied liberation, wisdom, and truth are difficult to ever realize.

For this reason, stone circles offers this 5-day retreat for activists; it is a time of dedicated spiritual and reflective practice in an atmosphere that explicitly honors the reality of their work and the larger social realities of the world. The retreat provides abundant time for silence, rest, practice, structured and unstructured reflection, discussion, and workshops on change theory, group dynamics, and spiritual/political strategy.

Soul Sanctuary

October 1st-5th

October 29th-November 2nd

December 28th-January 1st

For five days of every month, The Stone House is reserved for 6 activists and organizers to come spend time here in a way that they need to replenish themselves. Periods of meditation and yoga as well as volunteer work time are available to those who desire it. People have time and space to sleep and write, read and converse, worship in their tradition and learn about the natural world that surrounds us here in the rural environment of Mebane. We hope that people leave nourished by silence and by stories, by laughter and food, music and the natural sounds of night in the country. Click here to download more information on the program. Get in touch with Margie if you're interested in one of these long weekends. The program is free of charge to all who come - all meals and accommodations are included.

All events will take place at The Stone House, 6602 Nicks Road in Mebane, NC.
