To get to the end
the very end
let it all go let it go
saliva builds up on the lips
moss grows thick
on an ancient road
a wooden horse flashes
through the clouds
a clay ox thunders
beneath the sea
a moonlit night
on a thousand snowy peaks
a hidden scent says spring
has reached the winter plum

Community Work Days
Once a month, members of our community are
invited to come out to the land and spend time helping out with the
gardening, painting, bulding and various other efforts to help keep the
Stone House in good shape. We make sure to have a good time and keep
everyone who comes out well-fed and well nourished. Sign up for an upcoming day!
House Parties
We are inviting people to come out to the
land once a month to hear more about what is going on and how you might get
involved to support the vision. Get
in touch with Solita if you're interested in one of these evening
events!
Being Change: The Way of the Activist
stone circles' week-long retreat for
activists, organizers and change agents of all stripes will be offered this
spring for the first time at The Stone House! We've offered this program
with great success for the past few years around the country and we're
excited to finally be able to offer it here at our new home in Mebane, NC.

News from the land

Winter at the Stone House has been a time of steady preparation. The
energy needed to take care of our guests and get ready for our upcoming
program season has been gently balanced by the more restful pace of some
well-needed rainy days and by our own built-in desire to settle into the
fallow rhythm of the winter months. We even had a great snowfall last week
that left the Stone House glowing. Many of our guests took
advantage of the spectacular views- and the spectacular snowball snow!
Our spring schedule is already filling up with a huge variety of
organizations, community groups, religious groups, collectives, and
individual activists looking to use the space for their spiritual and
strategic needs. The enthusiasm has been amazing and we are really excited
to get the spring season underway.
Until then, here are some highlights of what's been going on this
winter and don't forget to check out the left sidebar for ways in which
you can come be a part of the vision in the coming months:
Latest Happenings
19 baby chicks recently made a new home at the Stone
House! They have been nestling in well and growing quickly. Keeping them
safe, warm and well fed has inspired everyone in the Stone House community
to get in touch with their inner caretaker and tend to our newest family
members. [Look forward to fresh eggs when you visit in the spring!]
In addition to hosting an important local MLK event put
on by our dear friends Gita and Edd Gulati-Partee, The Stone House honored
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a our own afternoon of music and poetry by
local and regional artists. It was a great community event!
We've decided to allow a natural process of regrowth to begin in the
pasture to help create more native habitat for wild bird
and animal species. Several local friends have suggested this and
encouraged the development of marginal spaces between forest and farm. We
all paused for a moment of reflection when one friend said, "You see, in
nature, most of life exists at the margins."
Hmmm... Indeed... Sounds like he's been to a Being Change retreat!
Volunteers have come from as close as Chapel Hill and
as far as Clevland over the past two months to help paint, build, chop, and
dig and they've ranged from 13-40 years old.
Kevin Dessert and volunteer Dan Dimitrov knocked out some new windows for
our future practice space on the lower part of the land.
Che Nembhard [left] and Rich Hamilton
[right] helped Stone House land steward Tahz Walker [center] get the chicken
coop ready for its new tenants.
Q Gaynor spent days turning mounds of underbrush into burnable firewood
for the stove in our living room- living proof of Thoreau's adage, "Chop
your own wood and it will warm you twice."

We've had a great time over the past few months getting the place
ready and hosting a number of wonderful groups. Check out the Stone House blog to get a
better sense of who is showing up and what they've been up to.
Upcoming...
Beginning in June, we will launch our new Soul Sanctuary
program where for 4 days of every month the Stone House will be reserved for
individual retreats for activists and organizers. This will be a time for
change agents to rest, rejuvinate, and share food and stories in community
with others who care deeply about issues of justice and equality.
