yoga of social change

Our Yoga of Social Change program, led by Claudia Horwitz and Michelle Johnson, explores the ways that yoga can deepen the journey of awareness & inform our desire for collective liberation.  Using yoga asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), meditation, teachings, discussion and time for reflection, this program allows practitioners to go deep, integrating spiritual practice with transformational social justice.

We offer Yoga of Social Change 1-2 times per year in a one-day format, and once per year as an overnight weekend retreat at The Stone House.  In 2011, we offered the program at the Festival Center in Washington, DC, and hope to return there annually.

about the teachers

Claudia Horwitz is the director of stone circles and The Stone House.  She is trained as a Kripalu yoga teacher, has studied yoga in India, and the author of The Spiritual Activist:  Practices to Transform Your Life, Your Work and Your World  (PenguinCompass, 2002).  She practices a yogic path of awareness on and off the mat.

Michelle Johnson completed 200 hours of Power Yoga Teacher training in the Baptiste tradition at Franklin Street Yoga, instructed by Lori Burgwyn. Michelle believes yoga is a gift of life, breath, spirit, love, and soulfulness and that it offers people the opportunity to learn how to breathe in their own time and way.
